INITIAL TRAINING

(for a first time radiography license)

Order Initial Radiography Training Materials Here

The Greater Toledo Dental Society offers a 7-hour initial training through a home-study course written by Sheri Lynn Sauer, C.D.A., C.O.D.A. Work through the modules required by the Ohio State Dental Board that include information on the following subject matters: radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety and protection; x-ray films and radiographic film quality; and radiographic techniques, processing and storage.

The cost is $80 for staff of a member dentist and students of Owens and Stautzenberger, and $130 for all others. Once payment is arranged, a book will be supplied that the applicant can review at their own pace. All paperwork is included. The training is in two parts: self-study of the provided materials and clinical application of techniques.

After self-study is complete, the applicant will take a post-test and return it BY MAIL or IN PERSON to the Toledo Dental Society office (an emailed copy is not accepted). The post-test will be graded, and if a passing grade is awarded, the applicant may proceed to the practical application of techniques. During this part, the applicant must complete in-office training supervised by a dentist. After the appropriate clinical training is complete, the supervising dentist will sign the affidavit and return to the Toledo Dental Society, and a Radiography Class Record will be issued.

Successful completion of both the self-study and clinical portions of the course qualifies the applicant to apply for certification from the Ohio State Dental Board as a dental radiographer by completing the steps below:
